Event Details

In this beginner class run by a fellow future MFT, participants will learn foundational patterns and turns for each dance while exploring both leader and follower roles. Beyond being enjoyable, dancing supports emotional health and cognitive functioning. Because it engages memory, coordination, rhythm, and social connection simultaneously, it is considered one of the most beneficial activities for long-term brain health.

About our Instructor

Sergio is a Marriage and Family Therapy student at The Chicago School and a trainee at Living Success Center. A ballroom dancer since age 11, he has been teaching and entertaining people of all ages for nearly 30 years. He is now inviting you to immerse yourself in a beautiful dance experience with Waltz and Ballroom Dancing!

COURSE DETAILS

Today’s families are navigating a childhood that looks drastically different from the one most therapists grew up in. From toddlers on iPads to teens immersed in social media and gaming, screen time is now at the center of many relational and emotional struggles we see in our practices. This talk will help therapists better understand the growing body of research around tech overuse and its impact on mental health, attention, behavior, identity development and family dynamics. My goal is to equip fellow therapists with the insight, language, and confidence to talk about tech use—not just as a parenting issue, but as a clinical one that touches nearly every case we see today.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

This talk will equip therapists with a deeper understanding of how technology overuse impacts mental health, relationships, and development across the lifespan. Attendees will gain practical tools and language to support clients in setting healthier digital boundaries, delaying harmful tech exposures, and fostering more intentional screen use.

AUDIENCE

Course is designed for mental health professionals of all levels.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

For more than a decade, Julie has provided mental health support to individuals, couples and families. She holds a Masters degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. In addition, Julie is the Mental Wellness expert at The Four Seasons Center for Health and Wellbeing in Westlake Village, California. At the hotel, she provides workshops that help couples, families and organizations connect to their purpose, their goals and each other. Her most recent project began in 2023 after she could no longer stay quiet about the youth mental health crisis and its connection to compulsive technology use. She joined MAMA, Mothers Against Media Addiction, (www.wearemama.org) and leads the Conejo Valley Chapter. She hosts frequent workshops for parents, teens and tweens, encouraging safe, intentional, balanced technology use. She is a CAMFT approved CE Provider. CE INFORMATION

Certificates will be sent within 2 business days after the CEPA director receives the evaluation and confirms minimum attendance requirements are met. All attendees much attended 80% of the program. In-person attendees will sign-in at the start of the program and sign-out after the program is concluded. Virtual attendees time will be monitored through the Zoom platform.

Digital evaluations must be completed after the program has ended. Evaluations are completed digitally (with a link or QR code).

Course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Networking time does not count toward CE credit.

Event Details:

OC-CAMFT's meetup group that enjoys that natural beauty of walking trails that orange county has to offer. Wear comfortable shoes and hats, and bring water, sunscreen and snacks as needed. Our hikes will alternate, and this month we will be hiking/walking the Back Bay Loop Trail.

Trail:

Most of the trail is on a paved bike path though portions of the course are on paved streets; the trail is almost entirely flat with a couple of slight hills.

Note:

The portion of the trail along Dover and Irvine Ave. can be tricky; having an experienced pedestrian biker is a plus. We continued toward Upper Newport Bay Nature Reserve and curved around the Ecological Reserve, hopped on the Mountains to the Sea Trail & Bikeway, stopped at Vista Point and continued along the Newport Bay. There are several restrooms along the Back Bay Loop: Castaways Park, Mariners Park, the Interpretive Center, Newport Dunes, and within RV Park.

Parking: Park near the address listed and we'll meet at the park!

New technology and evolving societal trends have significantly impacted the mental health field and invited novel law and ethics questions. Most recently, the rise of online therapy platforms and the coaching profession have left many therapists wondering how they can engage with these significant developments without risking their licenses. In this six hour workshop, CAMFT staff attorney Bradley Muldrow, Esq. will provide a helpful overview of how therapists can navigate some of the most common legal and ethical issues providers face when working for online therapy platforms. The workshop will also cover helpful issues therapists should consider when offering coaching services (in addition to their therapy services).

Target Audience: This course is designed for mental health professionals at an introductory and intermediate level.

As a CAMFT staff attorney, Brad takes member phone calls regarding law and ethics issues and contributes articles on those subjects to CAMFT's publication, the Therapist. Prior to joining CAMFT’s legal team, Brad worked on litigation and regulatory matters as an attorney for San Diego Gas & Electric Company. Since becoming an attorney, Brad has given law and ethics presentations to attorneys and judges as a member of the J. Clifford Wallace Inn of Court. He has also served as a board member for the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation, a San Diego-based nonprofit. As leader of Bayview Baptist Church’s Men’s Prison Ministry, Brad facilitates spirituality and personal development-focused discussion groups for incarcerated men at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.

Course Details

Earn 6 CE (CAMFT CE)

Brief Summary:

Participants will understand what online therapy platforms are and recognize some of the most common legal and ethical issues providers for such platforms navigate. Participants will understand the importance of upholding their legal and ethical responsibilities even if the platforms they work for request or expect them to take actions that are not consistent with their legal and ethical duties. Participants will understand when therapists can and cannot treat patients who are physically located across state lines during sessions. Participants will understand key legal and ethical issues therapists should consider when offering coaching services (in addition to their therapy services).

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to identify a recent law clarifying that online therapy platforms are health care providers that are generally required to adhere to the standards of California's Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. Participants will be able to distinguish between individual and group insurance contracts. Participants will be able to distinguish between “messaging-based therapy services” and more common forms of text-based communications with patients (e.g. “check-in” and scheduling text messages). Participants will be able to distinguish the primary function of therapy malpractice liability insurance from that of coaching liability insurance.

CE Information

Certificates will be sent within 2 days of CEPA director receiving the evaluation.

Note: Per BBS regulations, participants are required to attend 95-98% of the presentation to earn CEs. If you are unable to attend the 95%-98% of the presentation, we will send you the following:

Recording of the workshop followed by a test. Must score 70% or better with unlimited attempts.
Participants will receive a link to the evaluation which will be followed by your certificate of attendance.

Course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Networking time does not count toward CE credit.
